Signs a service may be due
- It has been more than a year since the last service.
- The boiler is slower to heat up or the heating feels weaker than usual.
- You notice banging, gurgling or 'kettling' noises.
- The pressure needs topping up more often than before.
- A yellow rather than blue flame, or sooty marks around the boiler.
- Higher energy bills without an obvious cause.
Why regular servicing matters
An annual service by an appropriately registered engineer helps catch faults early and, importantly, checks the appliance is burning safely. A poorly maintained gas appliance can produce carbon monoxide, which is why servicing should never be skipped or attempted by an unqualified person. Fit a working carbon monoxide alarm as an added precaution.
How often should a boiler be serviced?
Most manufacturers recommend an annual service, and many require one to keep the warranty valid. Autumn is a popular time, before the heating is used heavily through winter.
Booking a service
Boiler servicing is regulated work. Confirm the person attending is registered for your appliance and check their registration on the official Gas Safe Register before booking. You can send a servicing enquiry through this site and an independent engineer covering Carlisle may be in touch.
